ORDERS What is your minimum order? The minimum order for hardwood flooring is 20 square feet if you we have it in stock. If you are placing a special order, the minimum is 250 square feet. Can I see the product at your warehouse? Yes! Of course. Feel free to drop in and see our samples or browse the rough lumber we have in stock. When ordering hardwood flooring, how much extra should I order to allow for waste? As a rule of thumb, add 7-10% for waste and cuts, depending on your skill level and the layout of the area. What is the difference between Select + Better, Mill Run + Rustic Grades? The only difference is the amount of allowable character. You'll find the most amount of character knots, mineral streaks, etc. in a character or country grade. As you step up through the grades, the warranties are expanded and the grading enhanced.
MOULDINGS What are the different mouldings and how are they applied? Quarter Round:this moulding is used to hide the expansion gap left around walls during installation. T-Moulding: used as a threshold in doorways or as a transition strip where the hardwood flooring meets other floor or carpet Reducer: used as a transition from the height of the sub-floor to the height of the hardwood floor. Stairnose: used to cover the front edge of a stair tread or step. If used on a stair, flooring is installed behind the stair nose to cover the horizontal part of the stair [the tread]. Stairtread: a one-piece moulding used to entirely cover the structural stair tread.
FLOORING What is the difference between your Pre-Finished and Unfinished Flooring? Pre-finished Hardwood floor is end matched with a tight micro-beveled edge and has up to ten coats of aluminum oxide finish. Unfinished floors come end matched with a square edge and must be finished on site.
Can Hardwood floor be floated? Our hardwood flooring is a four-sided tongue-and-groove product that can be nailed directly to a wood subfloor. Hardwood floor cannot be floated. How do I acclimate my Hardwood floor? Let the flooring acclimate for 5-7 days, with boxes opened and laid flat in the room where the flooring will be installed. If you are in an area with high humidity, you may need to install humidity controls, such as a dehumidifier or humidifier.
Do you make recommendations for installers? We choose not to make recommendations for selecting installers, as we do not favour one over the other. We suggest you consult your local Better Business Bureau to find a reputable flooring installer.
How does moisture affect my hardwood flooring? Excessive moisture can lead to numerous changes in your flooring, such as cupping, buckling or cracking. It is highly recommended that you do not use water to clean your floors.
Do you recommend hardwood flooring in the basement? No, we highly advise you not to install hardwood flooring below grade. However, it is possible to install laminate flooring or engineered hardwood in these situations.
Can I install hardwood flooring in a bathroom? Hardwood floors are not covered by warranty if installed in a bathroom. Excessive moisture can cause damage to hardwood floors.
How do I install hardwood flooring? Installing hardwood flooring is not as hard as it may seem, although the process can vary depending on skill level and area. If you want more information, please contact us and we will help walk you through the process. What is the best way to clean my floors? The best way is to sweep, dust mop and vacuum the floor regularly, avoiding excessive moisture. A slightly damp mop may be used in the case of a spill.
Can I apply wax to my pre-finished floors? No, you should never apply wax to finish your surface type finishes.
